How to Depreciate an XRF Metal Analyzer

Compliance with regulations, quality control, waste sorting, safety inspection, precious metal verification, soil testing for contamination… even conducting archaeometry and detecting counterfeit art. The list of things an XRF analyzer helps organizations and businesses with is quite long.

In addition to easy and fast analysis, accurate results, many of the X-MET users discovered that this instrument amortizes its value very quickly.

1. Reduces the cost of third-party audits

Many companies need to verify the composition of their raw materials or finished products, and if there is no reliable way to measure this in-house, they use an external laboratory. But this service is not cheap, and if you have a lot of items that need analysis, external laboratory testing can be a significant threat to your bottom line.

A clothing company must comply with health and safety legislation. More practically, they must test their products for hazardous materials, such as lead and cadmium, before shipment. They have a large product range, which means testing thousands of items per year. Carrying out testing in-house with X-MET gave them an immediate result and reduced the cost of external laboratories:

“X-MET has reduced the need for laboratory analysis by about a quarter and saves our company over €200,000 annually.”

2. Meets customer requirements while maintaining profit margins

For some of our customers, the need for testing is driven by the customer rather than a legal requirement. This is the case for example for a company that produces specialized parts for demanding, corrosive, high-pressure environments. For their most critical components, the grade of raw materials must be determined before entering production and sometimes the final valves must also be verified. This constant need for accurate material identification would cost the company a lot of money if they were to bring in a consultant or use an external company. Instead, using X-MET reduces testing costs and keeps the possibility of material mix-ups to a minimum.

“On major orders we have a certain number of customers who require us to do a PMI inspection and provide them with a materials report. If we had to send for analysis to a third party company or bring in a consultant to do this inspection, it would create a cost of at least €10,000 per year.”

3. Reduction of waste of raw materials.

You can get great value from X-MET even if you don’t pay outside partners for analysis. The instrument can significantly reduce rework and scrap when used to determine quality throughout a production process. From incoming material verification, the earlier problems are identified, the lower the cost of quality.

For example, we have a customer in the appliance manufacturing industry. They use X-MET to measure the thickness of coatings applied to their products. This allows them to remove any out of specification parts from their production before wasting any more time or materials.

“By avoiding costly mistakes when producing stoves that are coated out of specification, we have recouped the cost of X-MET in just seven ten-hour shifts.”

More than just added value to your processes

Other features of the X-MET8000 include long battery life, ease of use with intuitive software, accurate results, and simplified data management. These practices facilitate a return on investment.
