The idea of World Recycling Day began in 2015 and went through 2018. Every year it falls on March 18 and aims to awaken the global population and promote the idea of recycling.
On this day, the global population unites to prioritize the planet and change the mindset of businesses, governments, and each individual citizen so that they treat recyclable materials as valuable resources.
“Every year we throw away over 2 billion tons of garbage, increasing air, soil and water pollution.”
So which materials are easiest to recycle?
First of all, paper , i.e. printed matter, newspapers, magazines, books, cardboard packaging boxes and paper bags. This helps to avoid the need to cut down more trees for the pulp required to produce paper. Paper recycling is more crucial than ever because the Covid-19 outbreak has led to an increase in online shopping and this in turn to an increase in the use of cardboard boxes.
Then, glass . Glass is 100% recyclable provided the glass items are clean . If you recycle it without cleaning it, food particles will make the glass low quality which does not help in creating new products.
The third material that we can easily recycle and that we all use is plastic . Among other things, the plastic packaging that we can easily send to the recycling bin are water and soft drink bottles, shampoo bottles, plastic bags, and milk bottles.
And finally, the most common material is metals . We can also easily recycle aluminum and steel cans , which makes this energy very beneficial. When we recycle them, the metals go to be sorted and melted down so that we can reuse them. Removing the labels is not necessary everywhere, but it is useful. In addition, you can move the paper label to the recycling bin for paper recycling. An aluminum can is 100% recyclable and reusing it reduces energy consumption by 90% compared to producing new aluminum.
