Until February 26, 2021, vehicle owners will be able to pay their 2021 Traffic Fees, as the Ministry of Finance has extended their payment and at the same time the deposit of license plates for those who wish to do so.
At the same time, a two-month “gift” was given to those who intended to deposit their license plates for 2021, since they will be able to move their vehicle until the end of February WITHOUT paying the traffic fees for 2021.
Temporary immobility
Therefore, by decision of the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Apostolos Vesyropoulos, the deadline for voluntarily immobilising vehicles was also extended until February 26, 2021.
As Mr. Vesyropoulos points out in his statement: “The Government is fully aware and aware of the difficulties, but also of the special conditions, that the pandemic has created. The extension for the payment of traffic fees is necessary to facilitate citizens and to enable everyone to fulfill this obligation.”
The Ministry of Finance emphasizes that there will be no new extension and the payment of traffic fees must be made by February 26, 2021.
Where to find the 2021 Traffic Fees
The 2021 Traffic Fees were posted on Taxisnet, which have no changes compared to the 2020 equivalents. The financial staff posted the 2021 Traffic Fees earlier so that vehicle owners can plan their payment in advance, either in cash or using a credit card that allows for payment in 9 to 12 interest-free monthly installments.
Owners of cars with a 1st Registration License until 31/10/2010 are required to pay from 22 euros to 1,380 euros depending on the type and year of registration.
Owners of vehicles with a 1st Registration License after November 1, 2010 pay Traffic Fees according to CO2 emissions.
The state hopes to collect approximately 1.1 billion euros from the 2021 Traffic Fees.
AADE: Easy payment with QR Code
This year’s notice, which is available from today for vehicle owners to pay their 2021 road tax, also includes a QR Code. By scanning this code, taxpayers can easily pay their fees, via mobile banking, without having to write down the payment code and amount.
The Public Administration Authority recommends that those liable to pay follow this procedure, avoiding visiting bank and Hellenic Post branches. However, citizens who are not familiar with the internet and visit banks to pay can also use the QR Code at automatic payment machines.
The Public Revenue Authority is constantly evolving the range and quality of its digital services with the aim of simplifying, accelerating payments and facilitating taxpayers. In this direction, it is recalled that there is always the option of paying via web banking, which from this year is carried out via an RF code, for even greater convenience.
The fines
The Road Taxes must be paid by 26/02/2021 or the license plates must be deposited by the above deadline. Otherwise, late payment will result in a fine of 100% of the Road Taxes attributable to the vehicle.
In detail it is paid:
- Equal to the fees, if the vehicle is a two-wheel/three-wheeled vehicle or a passenger vehicle.
- Half of the fees, if the vehicle is a passenger car or truck or bus.
- Zero charge if the road tax is less than 30 euros.
